Gramin Prahari within 25 years of its inception in 1986-87 has become a synonymous with women empowerment, Education, Healthcare & Sanitation, Relief and Rehabilitation (for orphans) Minority, Horticulture and Agriculture, Publication and Employment generation etc. It serves the needy irrespective of their caste, creed and religion, Gramin Prahari had to face blockade at every step. Though its headquarter is in the North-Eastern region, it carries on its welfare activities all over the country, Gramin Prahari answered the need of the region for a strong willed organisation to lift the morale of the people in general empower the women subjected to suppression for centuries, child labour working in the local brick kind safe migration, income generation, community Empowerment climate change, rampant human trafficking from Bhutan, Bangladesh and to proximity of the borders, GP has emerged as one of the resource centre in this region on the social issues, it not only helps the poor people but also provide self-employment to them.

The organisation aspires for the establishment of an egalitarian society based on the principles of equity (including gender equity) justice and fraternity where in collective Endeavour has the potential of actualizing human ends. Gramin Prahari has been one of the pioneers of SHG movement in Assam and has carved a niche for itself as a self-help promoting institution in the region. It provides the necessary support to a network of 58 self help group in the area of S.H.G. promotion. It is working in 75 village of Nagaon, Morigaon, Karbi Anglong and Kachar District of Assam (India).

It is also working with Minority people, Debits and other below the poverty line caste groups. Gramin Prahari at this point of time has a workforce of 10 fulltime Staff, 20 part-time Staff and 120 Volunteers working in the cove areas of community organisation, Health, Education, Income Generation, Child labour and Marriage, Cross-Border trafficking of human beings, organic farming and food security and Shramdan is essential Constituents of the organisation Gramin Prahari is running several vocational training programmes for women concerning Tailoring, Knitting, Embroidery, Computer and Type writing etc.

Gramin Prahari Stands for the Economic, Social and political empowerment of the poor and the marginalized to ensure their participation in the Societal mainstream in gender driven perspective.
